BOX PROJECT
I based my box project on hate crime and the murder of Sophie Lancaster. Sophie died at the age of 20 on 24th august, 2007. She and her boyfriend were creative and artistic people who dressed in their own way. The couple was attacked by a gang of five boys in Bacup, Lancashire and ever since, Sophies mum, Sylvia, was detirmed that she would carry on this work and established the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
I also used some food colouring as blood around the perimiter of the box as well as being blended in with red paint. The food colouring will represent Sophie's decaying body over time and the idea that people eventually rot away.
I used an array of materials starting with teared and scrunched up bits of paper to resemble how the gang of boys ripped out pieces of her hair and left it in bloody pieces.
The image below shows Sophie before being harmed as well as one of the offenders known as Ryan Herbert.
